Analysis und Scientific Computing

The QC-project is be supported by Prof. Martin Bluemlinger (Institute for Analysis and Scientific Computing, Vienna University of Technology) in research on the visualisation of group theory and questions about the topology of complex number space and lie algebra.

The epitahedra family is able to uniquely mark the 20 points of the icosahedron by its position. This finding of the QC-group is described in our article The Visualisation of the icosahedral group in a new 3D representation.

A Visualisation of an Icosahedral Subgroup in a new 3D Representation from Renate Quehenberger on Vimeo.

This 3D animated geometry programmed by Hans Katzgraber and modelled and animated by Christian Magnes shows how the epitahedron E+ indicates an icosahdral subgroup: The apex C of the epitahedron E+ ( with vertices C, A, B, F touching the vertices of the icosahdron) goes through all 12 vertices of the icosahedron ( points C-Q-N-M-A-E- L-K-B-F-P-O ) within the Platonic solid on the “rosetta path” introduced by co-worker Dipl.Ing.Dr. Hans Katzgraber to visualise a full icosahedral subgroup.

Please note that together all the edges of the performed positions of the epitahedron form a GREAT DODECAHDRON.
